On Monday 22 October 2018 the International School of Warsaw hosted a unique and exciting event to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Poland’s Independence and the centennial birth of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The International School of Warsaw had the distinct honor to welcome Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan AlSabri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Poland and Non-Resident to Lithuania and his Excellency’s Translator, Ali Siragedien.  The Ambassador was welcomed by Riaan Diedericks, the Executive Director of the International School of Warsaw.  Rabi Chibani, IB French teacher at ISW, spoke about future collaborations with the UAE Embassy and ISW.  Some of the projects Rabi discussed included exchange programs, green schools, and the participation in the 2020 Expo in Dubai.

The event started out with both the UAE and Polish national anthems.  The students gather together in excitement, enthusiastically waving they UAE flags in the air whilst singing along with the anthems.  During the opening ceremony his excellence, Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan AlSabri gave a moving speech to the students and then took time to pose for photos with them.

The students were then separated into groups where they worked with their art teacher to draw make different types of pictures for the art portion of the contest.  During this time the other students were busy showing off their knowledge of His Highness Sheikh Zayed in a fun quiz.  The spirit of the competition was contagious as the students were fully aware that the winners would receive a gift directly from the generosity of the UAE Embassy.

The next event was an amazing Arabic feast thoughtfully provided by the UAE Embassy.  Everyone sat together and enjoyed a full lunch of lamb and other delicacies.  ISW school provided some lovely Polish food.  During lunch, the students and guests were treated to some exotic music from the UAE which really enhanced the multicultural atmosphere whilst enjoying the delicious food and conversations.

The closing ceremony included the announcement of all the winners of the art and quiz contests.  The students beamed with pride when they were awarded their gifts that were so thoughtfully donated by the UAE Embassy.  Both the students and their teachers learned a lot about both Polish and UAE culture and it was a great celebration and collaboration of the two different cultures.

The ISW would like to thank the UAE embassy, Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan AlSabri, Ali Siragedien, and the staff/teachers at International School of Warsaw for all of the hard work they did to make this amazing event possible.
